Oven / Cooktop Timer - Gas
VIGIL-AIDE ELECTRIC/GAS STOVE ISOLATION SYSTEM
The stove supply isolation system is applicable to gas and electric stoves. It is designed to turn on the gas or electricity supply to the stove after pressing a switch and to automatically turn the stove off after a period of approximately 20 minutes. If more cooking time is required, pressing the main switch will give them another 20 minutes of cooking time.
If a relative visits the house and wishes to cook an extended meal, a bypass switch enables the stove to be operated for an extended period, eg 2 hours without having to press the by time delay switch every 18 minutes.
To ensure that the power to the unit is always available, a separate power point needs to be installed for connecting the power pack to operate the system.
GAS STOVE INSTALLATION.
When used on a gas stove, an electrically operated gas valve must be installed by a licenced gas fitter and an additional power point is required to be installed in the cupboard next to the stove to power the control system.
A time delay switch connected to the gas valve and powered from the power point controls the gas valve.
ALTERNATIVES AVAILABLE
Both units can be supplied with a key operated bypass switch located on the side of the time delay switch This is for use where a carer wants to cook a meal. Once inserted, the key cannot be taken out. The switch has to be turned off to remove the key.
Both units can also be supplied with a key operated switch to lock out the stove when the carer is not present in the home, ie, they go out to work. This replaces the time delay switch.
ELECTRIC STOVE INSTALLATION.
When used on an electric stove, a relay is fitted in the back of the stove. The relay is operated in the same manner as the gas valve.
The output from the time delay switch is used to activate the relay.
A qualified electrician must install the system.
Kits containing all fittings for either the gas or electric stove are supplied
MICROWAVE TIME DELAY SWITCH.
A time delay switch set for two or more as required minutes time delay is now available. This switch enables microwave cookers to be safely operated by people in the early stages of dementia. No installation activity is required.
AUDIBLE ALARM FACILITY
A 19 minute audible alarm can be fitted to either system.
This activates to let the person know that the time is just about up. They can then make a decision on whether to extend cooking or let the system time out.
This audible alarm can be extended by a radio link so that the person may be in another room and be advised that the 19 minutes is up.
POWER POINT INSTALLATIONS.
Both systems require a power point to be installed inside the cupboard next to the stove. The one variation to this is where a fridge is located up to 2 cupboards away from the stove. In this case, the power point behind the fridge is replaced with a double power point and the power pack is plugged into the power point and the low voltage cable run through the back of the cupboard.
In the gas stove situation where an electric start is provided, there may exist a 240 volt power point under the cook top. This can be utilised to provide the necessary power connection.
